The Minamata disaster was a chemical disaster that had gotten into the Minamata bay and had hit the minamata village. The chemicals that had come from the waste water witch had come from the 'Chisso' Corporation factory in Japan. The 'Chisso' Corporation had first opened a chemical factory in Minamata in 1908. They were producing fertilizers. The waste products had been released into the minamata bay. That had defiantly caused an environmental impact. From 1932 to 1968 the 'Chisso' Corporation had a company that was located in Kumamoto Japan and they had dumped a guess of 27 tons of the Mercury compound in the Minamata bay. The Mercury poisoning had been resulted of years of an environmental destruction and neglect from the Chisso Corporation. By 1925, the 'Chisso' Corporation had been dumping the waste into the bay and had destroyed the fishing area and has poisend the fish that had a lot of effect to people. Before they knew it was poisend and they did not start to notice that the bay was poisend until the late 1950's . The theory behind this industry was to pay off the Minamata fishermen in exchange for the damage of the fishing environment. 'Chisso' started making plastic, medicine and perfumes through the use of the chemical called acetaldehyde in 1932. This chemical is produced using mercury as a compound and was a huge part in their products.
In July 1959, researchers from the Kumamoto University had discorved that the organic mercury has been the cause of the 'minamata disease'.
